Aici regula merge pe dos fata de tot ce stiti despre apostrof in engleza, tocmai de aceea greseala este atat de raspandita.
"It's" cu apostrof inseamna "it is" sau "it has": it's cold outside, it's been a long day.
"Its" fara apostrof inseamna al lui (sau al ei), cand este vorba de un obiect ori de un animal: the dog wagged its tail, the company changed its name.
De ce posesivul nu primeste apostrof
In engleza, posesivul substantivelor chiar se face cu apostrof, ca in "John's car" sau "the dog's bowl".
Pronumele posesive insa nu il primesc deloc. Se vede la toate: his, hers, ours, yours, theirs.
Cuvantul de fata face parte din aceeasi familie, deci se poarta la fel ca ele.
Cititi cu it is in loc
Cititi propozitia cu "it is" in loc. Daca suna bine, puneti apostrof.
"It's raining" devine "it is raining", deci apostroful ramane.
"The car lost its wheel" nu poate deveni "the car lost it is wheel", deci se scrie fara.
Merita spus ca forma "its'", cu apostroful pus dupa s, nu exista deloc in engleza. Daca o vedeti undeva, este sigur o greseala.
