Limba engleza foloseste doua tipuri de cuvinte pentru a arata cui apartine ceva: adjectivele posesive, care stau inaintea unui substantiv, si pronumele posesive, care stau singure, fara substantiv dupa ele.
Cele doua forme nu sunt intotdeauna identice, asa ca merita invatate impreuna.
Adjectivele posesive (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) se pun intotdeauna inaintea unui substantiv: "my car". Pronumele posesive (mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs) stau singure, fara substantiv dupa ele: "This car is mine."

💡Sfat: Nu confundati "its" cu "it's". "Its" (fara apostrof) este forma posesiva: "The cat licked its paw." "It's" (cu apostrof) este prescurtarea de la "it is" sau "it has": "It's raining." Este una dintre cele mai frecvente greseli de scriere, chiar si pentru vorbitorii nativi.
